Birthplace: Prescott, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Elva Osmond Maher, age 88, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Elva Marie Osmond Maher was born March 27, 1918 in Prescott, Iowa the daughter of Raymond and Albena (Blazek) Young. She was raised in the Prescott area graduating from the Creston High School in 1935. She worked at the Swift Company in Creston until her marriage to Donald Osmond on January 4, 1939 in Maryville, Missouri. They lived in many different places including Creston and Council Bluffs, Iowa, Aurora, Illinois, Prescott and Des Moines, Iowa before moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 1950. While in Omaha she worked for the Omaha Public Schools Cafeteria and the Omaha Park Department. Donald preceded her in death on November 7, 1980. In 1985 Elva moved to Red Oak, Iowa when she married Donald Maher on August 31. Donald preceded her in death on January 24, 1993. Elva was a member of the First Christian Church, the Optimist Club, the Eagles Lodge, the Happy Warblers, and was the oldest member of her bowling league. Elva was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, her infant son: Larry Osmond; brothers: Bill and Earl; sister: Grace Truman; step-son: Gene Maher; and step-daughter: Helen McCourtney. Survivors include her children: Dr. Dennis Osmond and wife Sharon of Oakland, California; Eugene Osmond and wife Saundra of Littleton, Colorado; Ronald Osmond of Fremont, Nebraska; and Linda Simpson and husband Doug of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Cecily Hunter and husband Daniel of Berkeley, California; Jonas Osmond of Amsterdam; Suzette Osmond of Littleton, Colorado; and Blake Osmond of Ft. Collins, Colorado; 3 great grandchildren: Thomas, Madeline, and Devon; brother: Lowell Young and wife Naomi of Avoca, Iowa; step-daughter: Mary Maher of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, October 16, 2006 at the First Christian Church with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Parkside Baptist Church in Omaha or the First Christian Church in Red Oak. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
