Obituary

Birthplace: Atlantic, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Elsie L. Ratashak, age 62, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 8, 2008 at her residence after an extended illness. Elsie Lorene Ratashak was born June 8, 1946 in Atlantic, Iowa the daughter of Ervin and Lela (Turner) Zellmer. She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1964 and was united in marriage to LaVern "Dutch" Ratashak on November 12, 1966 in Griswold, Iowa. She and Dutch both worked at Union Carbide Battery Factory in Red Oak and moved to Red Oak in 1967. Elsie worked for Eveready Battery Company until the plant closed. She then went to work for Firstar Bank and most recently for CDS where she worked for ten years. Elsie was also a Mary Kay Consultant for many years. She was a member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge, loved to fish and camp, and loved her dogs. Preceding Elsie in death were her parents. Survivors include her husband: LaVern "Dutch" Ratashak of Red Oak, Iowa; son: Shawn Ratashak of Red Oak, Iowa; brother: Ray Zellmer and wife Rose Mary of Wiota, Iowa; sister: Karen Albertson and husband David of Cassville, Missouri; brother-in-law: Edwin Ratashak and wife: Eloise of Clarinda, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Betty Christensen of Griswold, Iowa; Ella Ratashak of Berthoud, Colorado; and Carolyn Ratashak of Urbandale, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Memorials services will be held 2 PM Monday, September 15, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Brett White officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be held at 4:30 PM Monday, September 15, 2008 in the Whipple Cemetery in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established in Elsie's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
