Elizabeth Lenore "Betty" McFarland, age 73, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society. Betty was born April 12, 1951, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Simms) McFarland. They lived on a farm south of Cromwell, Iowa, until Betty's father passed away in a car accident in 1959. In 1961, the family moved into town where Betty attended Cromwell School, graduating from the eighth grade. She later graduated high school in Creston, Iowa in 1969. Betty worked odd jobs until she moved to Atlantic, Iowa where she worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Company for 5 years. In 1973, she moved to Red Oak, Iowa, and worked as a cab driver for Courtesy Cab. She bought the company in 1975 and continued to drive. In 2001, Betty went to work for Southwest Iowa Transit Authority retiring in 2020 after 19 years of service. She was a driver for over 45 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sister: Nola Meyer and husband Kenneth; nephew: Dean Meyer; great nephews: Branden, Michael, and Scott McFarland; and a great niece: Bonnie Jean Meyer; and an adopted nephew: Michael Eggert. Survivors include her brother: John "Jack" McFarland and wife Judy of Afton, IA; nieces: Cindy Coleman and husband Tim of Washington and Jackie Daughenbaugh and husband Kenny of Phoenix, AZ; nephews: Marvin McFarland and wife Marla of Afton, IA; Glen Meyer of Red Oak, IA; and Andy Eggert and wife Lesley of Red Oak, IA; great nephew: Joshua Eggert of Red Oak, IA; special friend Juanita Skalberg and husband Jerry of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Malvern, Iowa Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the Cromwell Congregational UCC Church and Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.
