Birthplace: Silver City, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Effa Nell "Effie" Halvin, age 100, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society. Effie was born December 17, 1913 in Silver City, Iowa the daughter of Claude and Clara (Kindig) Maynes. She graduated from Silver City High School in 1931. The family moved to California for a short period of time before moving back to Iowa. Effie was united in marriage to Wayne Halvin on November 20, 1938 in Rockport, Missouri. They farmed for many years and bought their first farm in 1950. Wayne preceded Effie in death on April 19, 1990. Effie lived on the farm for many years by herself and moved to Ralston to be with her son several years ago. Effie's favorite past time was visiting with family and friends whom she loved so dearly. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Wayne; son: Stan Halvin; grandson: Mark Halvin; brothers: Earl, Darwin, and Russell Maynes; and sister: Della Mass. Survivors include her son: Gary Halvin and wife Debbie of Ralston, NE; grandchildren: Jeff Halvin of Ralston, NE and Julie Brase and husband Kevin of Leander, TX; great grandchildren: Andrew, Lauren, and Sarah Brase; step-grandchildren: Jessica Braun and husband Gilbert of Burlington, Ontario, Canada and Hillary Sellers of Lee's Summit, MO; step-great granddaughter: Victoria Braun; sister-in-law: Dorothy Doss of Fresno, CA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, October 10, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Cremation will take place after the services and burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established in Effie's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
