Birthplace: Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Edwin Alfred Helm, age 86, of Red Oak, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at his daughter's home near Villisca, Iowa. Ed was born June 8, 1934, near Elliott, Iowa, the son of Ernest Samuel Alfred and Lela Mae (Christensen) Helm. He grew up on the family farm near Elliott and graduated from Elliott High School in the class of 1954. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Steward on December 1, 1957, in Red Oak, Iowa. Three children were born to bless this union: Jeff, Debra, and David. Ed and Jane farmed north of Villisca, Iowa. Ed enjoyed raising crops and milking cows. He later worked at Thos. D. Murphy Co. retiring as a supervisor when JII closed the calendar company. Ed was a Christian man who loved the Lord and served God in many ways. He was active in Grace Baptist Church, serving as deacon, youth director, Sunday school teacher, and any other area of service that was needed. Ed was always ready to share his faith in God with whoever crossed his path. Preceding him in death were his infant son: Jeffrey Allen Helm, parents, sister: Inez Helm Bundgard, daughter-in-law: Joyce Helm; and sisters-in-law: Marica Helm and Doris Helm. Survivors include his wife: Jane Helm of Red Oak, IA; daughter: Debbie Anderson and husband Keith of Villisca, IA; son: David Helm of Grinnell, IA; grandchildren: Jason Helm of State Center, IA; Kyle Anderson of Villisca, IA; Michelle Anderson Hontz and husband Alex of Monona, IA; great grandchildren: Alexis, Alice, Kadence, and James Helm; brothers: Elmer Helm of Elliott, IA; LeRoy Helm of Red Oak, IA; and Sam Helm of Red Oak, IA; brother-in-law: Mac Bundgard of Huntley, IL, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, March 11, 2021 at the Grace Baptist Church in Red Oak. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Baptist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
