Edwin Basil “Ed” Foote, age 98, of Stanton, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, at his home. Ed was born June 13, 1927, near Grant, Iowa, the son of Merrill and Estella (Curry) Foote. He attended Foote country school and graduated from Grant High School in 1945. He started farming with his dad near Grant for five years before operating his own oil station in Grant for 12 years. During this time, he served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 8 years. He was united in marriage to Lucille Bauer in 1952 in Grant, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Steve, Doug, and Jerry. Ed and Lucille bought a farm near Wales, Iowa, where they farmed for many years. Lucille preceded him in death in 1978. Ed was united in marriage to Marilyn Lynch on November 14, 1984, in Carson, Iowa. They made their home in Stanton, Iowa. Ed spent many years driving a school bus for Grant, Wales, and Red Oak. Ed and Marilyn spent many winters traveling to Arizona, Texas, and Florida. Ed was a member of the Wales Presbyterian Church for many years where he was a Deacon, was a member of the Carefree Campers, a former member of both the Eagles and Elks Lodges and served on the Farmers Mercantile Board. His hobbies included camping, playing cards, visiting with people, eating at Pizza Ranch, especially enjoying chocolate pudding, and playing golf. At age 93, he shot a hole-in-one at the Red Oak Country Club.
Preceding him in death were his wife: Lucille Foote; son: Steven Foote; daughter-in-law: Linda Foote; great granddaughter: Paige Clark; siblings: Thelma Taylor; Beatrice Adams; and Lawrence Foote; brothers-in-law: Lloyd Taylor; Ross Adams; and Claire Schuler, Jr.; and sisters-in-law: Billie Ann Foote and Betty Bauer. Survivors include his wife: Marilyn Foote of Stanton, IA; children: Doug Foote and wife Deb of Red Oak, IA; Jerry Foote and wife Sharon of Stanton, IA; and Barbara Klouser and husband Chris of Phelps, WI; grandchildren: Ryan Pelzer and wife Jamie of Malvern, IA; Jared Pelzer and wife Jess of Griswold, IA; Hayden Pelzer and wife April of Griswold, IA; Cade Pelzer and wife Riley of Red Oak, IA; Jeremiah Foote and wife Diana of Red Oak, IA; Elisha Grayson and husband Justin of Kansas City, MO; Lauren Cramer and fiancé Greg Scheff of Cedar Rapids, IA; Cole Cramer of Hanover, MD; and Parker Klouser of Dakota, IL; 9 great grandchildren; sister: Phyllis Schuler of Atlantic, IA; brother-in-law: Edward Lynch and wife Kathy of Sparks, NV; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 10 AM until 11 AM on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel.
