Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Edward Lee Shook, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Edward Lee Shook was born March 17, 1938 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Elbridge and Lauretta (Ronk) Shook. He was raised in the Emerson area graduating from Emerson High School in 1956. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1958. Upon his return from service Ed went to work for Charles Lakin. He was united in marriage to Barbara Putnam on July 27, 1963 in Shenandoah, Iowa. They made their home in Shenandoah. Edward worked for the John Deere dealership, the International dealership, and later the Lakes Nursery in Shenandoah before moving to Red Oak where he worked at Uniroyal. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and enjoyed horses, rodeos, woodworking, fishing, and traveling. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife: Barbara Shook of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Kimberly Shook-Shurter and husband Rick of Shenandoah, Iowa; many cousins and friends including Dylan Crone of Omaha, Nebraska of whom Edward thought of as a grandson. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. There will be open visitation at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Shenandoah, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
