Birthplace: Adrian, Minnesota Resided In: Atlantic, IA formerly Red Oak Edward Ruffing, age 86, of the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa formerly of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 23, 2004 at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa. Edward Herman Ruffing was born March 28, 1918 in Adrian, Minnesota the son of Jacob and Margaret (Lenz) Ruffing. Ed was raised in Adrian, Minnesota. After High School he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps before serving in the United States Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Lewis on May 13, 1946 in Adrian, Minnesota. Ed worked all of his life in the Agriculture industry starting as a seed corn dealer and area manager. He and Dorothy later moved to Red Oak, Iowa in 1962 where Ed eventually retired from Nishna Grain Company of which he was an owner. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the Red Oak Country Club and a former member of the Elks Lodge. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Dorothy Ruffing on November 1, 2003; 7 sisters: Ida Hendel; Alma Holzmer; Hilda Carlson; Amalia Ruffing; Martha Ruffing (infant); Hermina Spartz; and Lauretta Hensen; and 3 brothers: Leander; Harold; and Vincent Ruffing. Survivors include his 2 sons: Charles Ruffing and his wife Jonelle of Atlantic, Iowa; and Michael Ruffing and his wife Denise of Clarinda, Iowa; daughter: Mary Park and her husband Donald of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Stacie Kesselring and her husband Dan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Gabriel Ruffing of Augusta, Maine; Erica Ruffing of Muncie, Indiana; Laurie Park of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Brian Park of Iowa City, Iowa; 2 great grandchildren: Bianca and Piper Kesselring and many other relatives and friends. Mass of Celebration will be held 10 AM Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Ken Gross officiating. Burial of ashes will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
