Edward John Hansen V, age 54, of Red Oak, Iowa, formerly California, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the University of Nebraska Medicine in Omaha. Edward was born August 27, 1969, in Castro Valley, California, the son of Edward John Hansen IV and Joann (Myers) Hansen. He was raised in San Leandro, California, where he attended school. After high school, Edward was a bartender and bouncer for several years and worked in the Heating and Air business for many years. Ed was engaged at one point in his life to Heather Young and two children were born of this union: Samantha and Joshua. He later married Kim Vernor in 2015 in Livermore, California. He moved to Red Oak, Iowa, in 2023, to be near his daughter. He loved music and was in a band called the Dorks, where he played guitar and sang. Ed loved watching movies, cooking, having family gatherings, being with friends, and going to social events. He loved playing games, especially card games and was an avid 49er's fan.

Survivors include his children: Samantha Hansen of Red Oak, IA and Joshua Hansen and wife Kaylee of Ames, IA; granddaughter: Kennedy Hansen of Ames, IA; mother: Joann Hansen and husband William Owens of Carson City, NV; brother: Troy Hansen and wife Karen of Vacaville, CA; aunt: Denise Dixon of McKinney, TX; uncle: Butch Myers of Shingle Springs, CA; niece: Alyssa Hansen of Vacaville, CA; nephew: Chad Hansen of Vacaville, CA; and many other relatives and friends including lifelong friends: Tony Dixon, John Pimental, James Thomas, Dennis Brandt, Pete Lawson, and Erin Taylor.

A celebration of life service will be held in California at a later date.
