Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Edward "Gene" Chatterton, age 72, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Society. Gene was born August 26, 1946 in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Edward and Hazel (Hoyt) Chatterton. He was raised in the Red Oak and Corning area and graduated from Red Oak High School. He was united in marriage to Kathy Herbert on September 10, 1966 in Emerson, Iowa. They lived all of their married life in Red Oak, Iowa. Gene worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for most of his working life. After retirement, Gene enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, and playing cards, especially cribbage and solitaire. He was a past member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge and currently a member of the Nishna Valley Bass Club. He also enjoyed watching sports. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Kathy; and brother: Don Chatterton. Survivors include his daughter: Amy Murren and husband Chad of Villisca, IA; grandchildren: Katherine Palasky and husband Richard of Villisca, IA and Newt Murren of Villisca, IA; sister: Sharon Chatterton of San Antonio, TX; brother-in-law: Ken Herbert and wife Cheryl of Villisca, IA; and sisters-in-law: Karen Brewer of Emerson, IA and Sharon Chatterton of Omaha, NE; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
