Birthplace: Woodbine, Iowa Resided In: Elliott, Iowa formerly Omaha Edward Kermit Athey, age 81, of Elliott, Iowa formerly Omaha, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Edward was born January 18, 1933 in Woodbine, Iowa the son of Lawrence and Murtle (McGee) Athey. He was raised in Woodbine and Dunlap. After school, he helped on the family farm and later moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he lived most of his life. He was united in marriage to Rose Cook in 1955. Two daughters were born to this union: Elaine and Laura. Edward worked for Independent Metal Company as a welder in his early work career. He retired from Omaha Public Schools and also drove a cab part time as well as an airport shuttle. He moved to Elliott in 2007. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters: Doris Topolski, Lois, Renz, and Thelma Ulmer; and a brother: Clifford Athey. Survivors include his daughters: Elaine Alexander and Laura Weston and husband George of Elliott, Iowa; grandchildren: Colby Weston and wife Dawn; Jebediah Weston and wife Carrie; Madeleine Weston; Gwendolyn Weston; and Shad Alexander all of Elliott, Iowa; and Heath Alexander and wife Angie of Clarinda, Iowa; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial luncheon will be held from 1-2:30 PM on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Elliott Community Building in Elliott, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with cremation services.
