Edus G. Volkmer, age 91, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak, Iowa. Edus was born June 10, 1932, in Johnson, Nebraska, the daughter of Edward J. and Katherina (Teenie) Dirks. Edus graduated from Talmage High School in Talmage, Nebraska. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska. And later earned her master's degree in education from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. Edus was united in married to Leon A. Volkmer on June 3, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paul, Nebraska. Through the years, Edus taught in rural school districts in southeast Nebraska, Essex, Wales and Red Oak, Iowa.

Edus was preceded in death by her parents; brother: John E. Dirks; sister: Wanda Lane; brothers-in-law: Sylvester "Sunny" Volkmer and Bruce Huber; sister-in-law: Lois Volkmer and grandson: Shawn O'Rourke. Edus is survived by her husband: Leon A. Volkmer; children: Dirk and wife Queenie Volkmer and Sherry O'Rourke-Page; sisters-in-law: Joan Huber and Alberta "Bert" Webber and husband Dick; brother-in-law: Adrian "Steve" Volkmer and wife Lee; grandchild: Elric Page and wife Angela and great grandsons: Matthew O'Rourke and Michael Page.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak. Visitation with the family will be held from 9-10 AM Tuesday, January 2, 2024, St. Mary's Catholic Church.
