Birthplace: Grant, Iowa Resided In: Elliott, Iowa Edith A. "Edie" Allen, age 86, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Edith Anice "Edie" Allen was born June 4, 1925 in Grant, Iowa the daughter of Delbert and Doris (Walker) Artlip. She attended school in Elliott, Iowa. Edie was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Allen on June 4, 1954 in Casper, Wyoming and they moved back to Elliott, Iowa in 1961 where they operated a restaurant. Over the years Edie worked as a waitress, was in charge of housekeeping at the Holiday Inn, and worked as a seasonal employee for the Thomas D. Murphy Company. Edie was a member of the Elliott Church of Christ and also attended the Community of Christ Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning, garage sales, fishing, playing cards, and her Beagle puppies. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Bob Allen on February 4, 2007; infant son: Richard Dean; brothers and sisters: infant Fay Artlip; Dean Artlip; Maree Finchem; and Bob Artlip. Survivors include her daughter: Kay Keeton of Elliott, Iowa; step-son: Gary Allen and wife Marcia of Corning, Iowa; grandchildren: Rick Keeton of Shenandoah, Iowa; Lyndsey Lamb of Atlantic, Iowa; John Allen of Des Moines, Iowa; and Rachel Edwards and husband Nicholas of Corning, Iowa; great grandchildren: Bob Keeton of San Diego, California; Meagan Mattson and husband Dustin of Shenandoah, Iowa; Jessica Keeton of Iowa City, Iowa; and Rachael Peterson of Des Moines, Iowa; great great grandchildren: Jazmine, Tyson, Jacob, Jesse, Matthew, and October; brother: Charles "Buzz" Artlip and wife Elaine of Villisca, Iowa; sister: Betty Lawson of California; brother-in-law: Don Allen of Red Oak, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Ruth Echternach and husband Wayne of Red Oak, Iowa; Jewel Allen of Rawlins, Wyoming; and Nettie Artlip of Elliott, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mel Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-7 PM Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
