Obituary

Eddie Lee “Ed” Fada, age 85, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Ed was born January 9, 1940, near Morton’s Mill, Iowa, the son of A.C. “Slim” and Ruth (Kneedy) Fada. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1957 and started farming as well as working at the Farmers Mercantile. He was united in marriage to Pat Hauskins in 1960 and two children were born to this union: Tim and Carrie. Ed later married Phyllis (Rickels) Cooper and welcomed her three children: Debbie, Randy, and Dennis to the family. Then, along came Tammi, the youngest of the family. Ed farmed for many years and worked for John Deere Implement, retiring in 2014 after 35 years. Ed was a 55-year “Lifetime Member” of the Red Oak Elks Lodge and was a longtime member of the “Elliott Mafia”. He was a true outdoorsman who lived fishing, hunting, watching birds, mowing, gardening, and tending to his flowers. Ed was a true sports enthusiast who loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Phyllis Fada on June 23, 2014; sister: Joann Harms and husband Dale and daughter-in-law: Jill Cooper. Survivors include his children: Tim Fada and wife Krystalle of Red Oak, IA; Carrie Giroski and husband Eric of Vancouver, WA; and Tammi VanMeter and husband Brian of Red Oak, IA; stepchildren: Debbie Cooper of Villisca, IA; Randy Cooper and wife Denise of Red Oak, IA; and Dennis Cooper of Villisca, IA; grandchildren: Melani Walford and husband Cody of Waukee, IA; Hailey Fada and significant other, Andrew Palmquist of Red Oak; Josie Starlin and husband Dustin of Red Oak; Courtney Nielsen and spouse Janae of Bellingham, WA; Brittney Duval and significant other, Jerrall of Spokane, WA; Hayden VanMeter of Red Oak; Katie Stanley and husband William of Red Oak; Charity Myers and husband Tim of New Virginia, IA; Cody Winther and wife Nicole of Cedar Falls, IA; Jon Cooper and wife Shauna of Omaha, NE; Josh Cooper and wife Kristi of Omaha; Liz Johnson and husband Canden of Red Oak; Tony Cooper and wife Shawnie of Red Oak; Jennifer Cooper of Foley, AL; 30 great grandchildren; brothers: Charles Fada and wife Norma of Dayton, OH and Galen Fada and wife Mychelle of Glenwood, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association or the Red Oak Elks Lodge.
