Birthplace: Foster, Nebraska Resided In: Red Oak, IA formerly Hornick, IA Earl L. Miller, age 96, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Earl Louis Miller was born February 8, 1915 in Foster, Nebraska the son of Paul and Minnie (Kanaak) Miller. He was raised in Nebraska where he attended school and later worked as a farm hand. He served in the United States Army from 1939 until 1945 during World War II. He was united in marriage to Roine J. Haden on January 1, 1944 in Clay Center, Kansas. They moved to Hornick, Iowa in 1945 where Earl was the head mechanic for Duncan Implement for many years. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill, Iowa where he was an Elder. He also was a member of the American Legion, was the Mayor of Hornick, Iowa (1973 & 1974), and served on the Hornick Fire Department for 29 years. He spent many hours fishing, fixing things, and was an avid baseball fan. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife: Roine Miller on March 4, 2001; siblings: George, Reuben, Rosella, and Violet; son-in-law: Raymond Thompson; and grandson-in-law: Mike Moneysmith. Survivors include his chidren: Carol Adkins and husband Reuben of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Jean Thompson of Mundelein, Illinois; Rich Miller and wife Kathy of Rapid City, South Dakota; Robert Miller and wife Virginia of Rapid City, South Dakota; and Eunice Riesberg and husband Richard of Grundy Center, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; sister: Elta Wederski of Hershey, Nebraska; brothers-in-law: Paul Hilkemann of Pierce, Nebraska and Ernest Haden of California; sister-in-law: Fern Vellucci of Leonardville, Kansas; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Jerome Wagoner officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Care Center or the Heartland Hospice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
