Birthplace: Rural Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Elliott, Iowa Earl Gemmill, age 85, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Friday, August 5, 2005 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Earl Wendler Gemmill was born November 20, 1919 in rural Elliott, Iowa the son of Duncan and Elsie (Wendler) Gemmill. Earl was raised in Elliott and later the family moved to Red Oak where Earl graduated high school. After high school Earl started farming near Elliott, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Florence Beggs on June 20, 1943 in Ft. Morgan, Colorado. Earl and Flossie farmed until the mid 1960's. Earl then worked at several different places before going to work for Miller Farm Supply and later retired from the Elliott Community Schools where he was a custodian. He was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church and a former member of the Masonic Lodge. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; step-father: Alfred Adams; wife: Flossie Gemmill on January 8, 2000; step-brothers: Lynn Adams and Ira Adams; and step-sister: Flora Dahlstrom. Survivors include his dear friend: Aluia Penry of Red Oak, Iowa; two daughters: Nancy Gresham of Era, Texas; and Margaret Campbell and husband James of Anchorage, Alaska; son: Doug Gemmill and wife Loyas of Ames, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Dianne Green and husband Robert of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Brian Gresham and wife Stacey of Allen, Texas; David, Douglas, and Erin Campbell all of Anchorage, Alaska; Sarah Gemmill of Japan; and Matthew Gemmill of Ames, Iowa; great grandchildren: Justin, Jordan, Christian, and Kaytlin; sister: Florence Peterman and husband Jim of Villisca, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at the Elliott United Methodist Church with Pastor Ray Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, August 8, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
