Birthplace: Mills County, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Dwayne Bentley age 72 of Emerson, Iowa passed away Sunday, June 24, 2001 at his residence in Emerson, Iowa. Dwayne Elvyn Bentley was born in Mills County on December 15, 1928 to Orris and Ruth (Sowers) Bentley. He was raised in Southwest Iowa and graduated from Emerson High School. He served his country in the Army having served in Korea and Japan. Dwayne was in the 1st Calvary Division and the 7th Calvary Regiment - General Custer's Register and served 75 years after General Custer's death. Dwayne was a truck driver and previously owned D & G Skelley Gas Station in Red Oak. He was a member of the American Legion in Emerson and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Viola Starr. He died on his mother's birthday and his mother died on his birthday. Survivors include his son: Gary Bentley and his wife Dianne of Carroll, Iowa; daughter: Pam Huntsman and husband Bob of Emerson, Iowa; five grandchildren: Kylee, Ben and Linzee Huntsman, and Nic and Katie Bentley; two sisters: Melva Henderson and her husband Max of Macedonia, Iowa and Vernelle Ellis of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother: Neil Bentley of Carson, Iowa; and a brother-in-law Roger Starr and wife Peggy of Council Bluffs, Iowa and many other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at 10:30 AM at the Emerson Cemetery in Emerson, Iowa. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 27, 2001 from 9:00 - 10:15 AM at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel prior to the graveside service.
