Obituary

Birthplace: Lost Nation, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Dr. Patrick Henry Hughes was born February 10, 1929 in Lost Nation, Iowa, the son of Henry Mathias and Winifred Caroline (Kramer) Hughes. He passed away on Wednesday morning, June 13, 2007 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Hughes joined the United States Air Force after high school and retired as a Master Sergeant after 23 and one half years. On December 12, 1959, he was married to Donna Joan Harris at Offutt Air Base. Following his retirement, Dr. Hughes had a chiropractic practice in Red Oak. He enjoyed to exercise, dancing and most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Donna in 1995; and a sister, Ann Sullivan in 1975. Survivors include his children, Christopher Hughes and his wife Marguerite of Virginia and Rhonda Sperber and her husband Steve of Red Oak; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Hughes, Patrick Hughes, Michael Hughes, David Sperber and Alec Sperber; three sisters, Madonna Fuegen and her husband George of LaMotte Iowa, Martha Walston and her husband Arthur of El Cajon, California, Irene Shepherd and her husband Donald of San Diego, California; a brother, Paul Hughes and his wife Bernice of Durant, Iowa along with many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 15, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Red Oak. Visitation with the family present will take place Thursday evening, June 14, 2007 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 8:00 P.M. at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established.
