Birthplace: Harlan, Kentucky Resided In: Essex, Iowa Arthur Douglas "Doug" Simpson, age 70, of Essex, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Clarinda Regional Hospital. Doug was born March 13, 1951 in Harlan, Kentucky, the son of Matt Simpson, Sr. and Eula Randall Simpson. The family lived in Twila, Kentucky until Doug was nine years old when they moved to Wyoming. He graduated from Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis, Wyoming and attended college in Casper, Wyoming. Doug worked many years for Mountain State Telephone which eventually became Mountain Bell and later Qwest where he retired in 2001. He also retired from the Wyoming National Guard and RRTNA, a recycling company. Doug was united in marriage to Linda Osmond on December 13, 1991 in Denver, Colorado. After retirement in 2001, they sailed on a boat for a couple of years and moved to Red Oak, Iowa in 2005 and Essex, Iowa in 2018. Doug enjoyed traveling and his work took him all over the world. He loved cars, guns, hunting, and western art. Doug was a very active member of the Red Oak Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #1304. He served on many committees, was Exalted Ruler 2013-2014, Officer of The Year 2019-2020, and was currently a Trustee. The Lodge will truly miss Doug Simpson. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife: Linda Simpson of Essex, Iowa; brother: Wayne Simpson and wife DeeAnn of Glendale, AZ; niece: Dionne Skillings and husband Troy of Glendale, AZ; nephew: Brent Simpson and wife Karyn of Surprise, AZ; brothers-in-law: Ron Osmond and wife Nancy of Lincoln, NE and Dennis Osmond and wife Sharon of Oakland, CA; sister-in-law: Sandy Osmond of Littleton, CO; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial visitation will be held from 2-4 PM Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the Red Oak Elks Lodge. Memorials are suggested to the Doug Simpson Elks Scholarship Fund or the Elks Building Fund. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
