Birthplace: Clarinda, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Dorris V. Pratt, age 92, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Dorris was born December 29, 1921 in Clarinda, Iowa the daughter of Orville Henry and Agatha Bell (McAlpin) Slaight. She was raised in New Market and graduated from New Market High School in 1939. She was united in marriage to Darrell Pratt on April 12, 1940 in Clarinda, Iowa. They lived on the Pratt family farm for one year and moved to Galesburg, Illinois for a short time before moving back to the farm. They farmed for 15 years and moved to Red Oak in 1957. Dorris worked for Farm Bureau for a brief period of time and started working in the Montgomery County Treasurer's Office. She retired as Deputy Treasurer after 24 years of service. Dorris was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a 50 plus year member of the Order of Eastern Star, member of the Good Samaritan Society Advisory Board for many years, served many years on the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross blood drives. She enjoyed fishing, reading, photography, and loved to travel visiting all 50 states. Dorris found the most joy by spending time with her family and the many dear friends she and Darrell had. Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister: Thelma Hargis; and daughter-in-law: Karen Pratt. Survivors include her husband of nearly 74 years: Darrell Pratt of Red Oak; children: David Pratt and wife Judy of Perry, IA; Doug Pratt and wife Karen of Red Oak; Dan Pratt and wife Vicki of Red Oak; and Debra Hoesing and husband Michael of Papillion, NE; 15 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Eastern Star services will be held 6 PM Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with visitation with the family to follow until 8 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Heartland Hospice of Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
