Dorothy Wells, age 87 of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, December 2, 2024, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Dorothy was born August 1, 1937, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde Carter and Doris Ruth (McMickle) Carter. She was raised in the Eldon and Agency, Iowa area. She graduated from Eldon High School. Dorothy was united in marriage to Dallas Claude Wells, Sr., on October 31, 1956, in Red Oak, Iowa.
Dorothy and Dallas welcomed two children, Troy and Teresa. Dorothy worked at Moore's Donut Shop and JD Café in Red Oak. She babysat for 20 years, until making a career with CDS. In retirement, Dorothy lived an active lifestyle while residing at Acorn Acres. She participated in many of the activities, including serving as past chairman of the resident council. She was an avid diamond painter and was known as the source of all diamond painting supplies to the residents. Dorothy was a past member of the Tag-A-Long Booster Club and VFW. She was a talented seamstress, making many quilts, baby blankets, and embroidered goods. She talked to anyone who would listen. Most of all, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family.
Preceding her in death was her parents; husband: Dallas Claude Wells, Sr.; sisters: Betty Shumaker, Rosemary Carter, Martha Marker, and Lucille Sapp; brothers: Fred Carter and Clifford Carter.
Dorothy is survived by her son: Troy Wells and wife Kelly of Bennington, Nebraska; daughter Teresa Parris and husband Robert of Red Oak, Iowa; step-daughter: Betty "Bugs" Wells of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Allyson Morrill and husband Seth of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Austin Wells and wife Marla of Murray, Iowa; Ryker Connell and significant other Brianna Ostronic of Omaha, Nebraska; Sydney Connell of Omaha, Nebraska; Stephanie Parris of Denver, Colorado; Claudia Parris of Coin, Iowa; Brandon Parris of Omaha, Nebraska; great-grandchildren: Kendal and Lyla Greenquist of Omaha, Nebraska; William and Declan Morrill of Omaha, Nebraska; Gracelynn Canchola of Coin, Iowa; sisters: Ruth Ann Downing of Ottumwa, Iowa and Patty Durflinger of Eldon, Iowa; brother: Bill Carter and wife Martha of Burlington Colorado, other relatives and friends.
Services for Dorothy Wells will be held at 2 PM, Monday, December 9, 2024, at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with interment at the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2 PM – 4 PM, Sunday, December 8, 2024, Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
