Birthplace: Emerson, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak formerly Morton Mills Dorothy I. Vannausdle, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa formerly of Morton Mills, Iowa passed away Monday, December 29, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness. Dorothy Irene Vannausdle was born January 27, 1915 in Emerson, Iowa the daughter of Ivan and Ila (Gilmore) Shook. She graduated as Valedictorian from Emerson High School in 1933. Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold Vannausdle on October 2, 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They farmed near Emerson and Stennett moving to Morton Mills in 1946 also farming. Harold and Dorothy moved into Morton Mills in 1970 and Harold preceded her in death in 1983. Dorothy has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Care Center since 1995. Dorothy was involved in the Morton Mills Ladies Aid and many neighborhood clubs. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, her cats, and enjoyed working in her flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Harold on October 2, 1983; son: Duane Vannausdle on February 11, 1995; and sister: Evelyn Ungry. Survivors include her daughter: Donna Finnell of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter-in-law: Shirley Vannausdle of Villisca, Iowa; grandchildren: Debbie Bruns and husband George of St. Louis, Missouri; Cyndie Sorensen of Cape Coral, Florida; Bill Finnell of Littleton, Colorado; Brenda Vanderneck and husband Vince of West Des Moines, Iowa; Chris Vannausdle and wife Brenda of Villisca; and Ray Vannausdle of Huxley, Iowa; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will start at 9 AM, Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak and we will go to the cemetery in procession. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
