Dorothy Ruth Hamman, age 92, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Dorothy was born September 2, 1929, on a farm near Nodaway, Iowa, the daughter of Glen and Ruby (Stalder) Greenfield. She attended school in Stanton, Iowa. Dorothy was united in marriage to Floyd Hamman on April 6, 1947 in Villisca, Iowa. Over the years, employment took the family to Red Oak, Perry, and back to Red Oak. In the early 1960's, Dorothy and Floyd started Hamman Wholesale Candy and Vending and operated until 1976 when they sold the business. That same year, Dorothy started working in the dietary department at Murphy Memorial Hospital retiring from the new location of the hospital known as Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after 18 years of service. Dorothy also did the bookkeeping for Floyd's landscaping business. She was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and currently Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She was a former Altrusa member and volunteered at the Senior Center. Dorothy enjoyed puzzles, doing crafts, coloring, square dancing, and playing on her tablet. Dorothy and Floyd were very active in the Red Oak Optimist Club for many years.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Floyd Hamman on July 22, 2013; and brothers: Jerry and Ed Greenfield. Survivors include her children: Kathy Inman and husband Doug of Colorado Springs, CO; Karen Beaty and husband Tom of St. Charles, MO, and Kenny Hamman and wife Bev of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Stephanie Jones of Needville, TX; Kristen Washam and husband Steve of Lycedale, MS; Matthew Beaty and wife Ashley of Clayton, NC; Jason Hamman and wife Rebecca of Lexington, SC; Angela McCoy and husband Josh of Fairmont, NE; and Brian Hamman and wife Meredith of Red Oak, IA; 22 great-grandchildren: 2 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Carol Greenfield of Villisca, IA, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Monday, May 16, 2022, at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association or the Red Oak Public Library Foundation.
