Birthplace: Rural Essex, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Dorothy V. Carbaugh, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Dorothy Vernice Carbaugh was born February 14, 1925 near Essex, Iowa the daughter of Carl and Vernice (Youngberg) Lantz. She attended country school and later Stanton High School. Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald Platt in 1942 and to this union a daughter, Betty was born. Donald died while serving his country during WWII. Dorothy was united in marriage to Clarence Carbaugh on January 23, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri. To this union two children were born: Peggy and Dennis. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the Stanton, Iowa area where they farmed until moving into Red Oak in 1972. Dorothy was a homemaker and worked for the Red Oak High School in the cafeteria. Dorothy was quite talented in handwork including sewing and cross stitching. She enjoyed gardening, camping, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Dorothy was also a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands: Donald Platt and Clarence Carbaugh; grandchildren: Jeff Grasso and Dana Grasso; and brother: Carrol Lantz. Survivors include her children: Betty Lantz and husband Doug of Peachtree City, GA; Peggy Schantz and husband John of Cheyenne, WY; and Dennis Carbaugh and wife: Pam of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Tracy Halvin and husband Fred of Austin, MN; Andy Lantz and wife Elina of Peachtree City, GA; Angie Beveridge and husband Jacques of Cheyenne, WY; Shannon Bergren and wife Sheryl of Fairfield, IA; Jessica Pierson and Michael Paris of Madison, NE; David Carbaugh and wife Leslie of Omaha, NE; Dionne Binau of Essex, IA; Christi Johnson and husband Aaron of Red Oak, IA; Kimberly Mosier and husband Chris of Essex, IA; and Mandy Christensen and husband Nick of Cumberland, IA; many great grandchildren; sisters: Marjorie Erickson of Stanton, IA and Jean Lofgren and husband Robert of Red Oak, IA; sister-in-law: Jean Ratcliff of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery at Stanton, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
