Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Doris Spragg, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Doris M. Spragg was born May 12, 1914 in Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of William Glen and Goldie (Selser) Spragg. She was raised in Montgomery County attending school at Stennett until transferring to Red Oak where she graduated. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught school at various country schools in the area until taking a course at Iowa State University at Ames to prepare her for the Nurses Corps in the Army. She served during World War II in England and France. Upon her discharge she attended Columbia University where she earned a Master's Degree in Dietetics. She eventually worked for the University of Kansas in the graduate department. She retired and moved to Red Oak in1977. Doris was most recently a resident of the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Dieticians Association, the Kansas Dieticians Association, Business and Professional Women, Monday Club, Retired Teachers Association, and the Rebekah Lodge. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother: Donald. Survivors include her brother: Leonard Spragg of Miami Shores, Florida; 2 nephews: Tom Spragg of Dunkirk, Maryland; and Dennis Spragg of Milton, Massachusetts; 2 great nieces: Renee and Meredith of Dunkirk, Maryland; and great nephew: Michael of Dunkirk, Maryland; and many other relatives and friends
