Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, IA Doris Peterson, age 81, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa after an extended illness. Doris Lucille Peterson was born July 7, 1920 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Andrew and Sadie (Abrahamson) Pearson. She has lived all of her life in the Red Oak area. She graduated from the Coburg High School and taught school in country schools and later at the Coburg school. She was united in marriage to Carroll Peterson on July 17, 1941 in Red Oak, Iowa. Carroll preceded her in death on November 6, 1997. Doris was a homemaker and taught school in the Red Oak School District for 22 years. She was a member of the First Covenant Church where she taught Sunday, School, was a 4 H Leader, was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and sang with the Montgomery County Women's Chorus. Doris enjoyed teaching and taking care of her beautiful flower gardens. Survivors include her 2 sons: Richard Peterson and his wife Darlene of Deerfield, Illinois; and Marlin Peterson and his wife Kallee of Loveland, Colorado; 2 daughters: Shirley Schermer and her husband Doug of Wayland, Iowa; and Beverly Peterson of Olympia, Washington; 5 grandchildren: Garrick Schermer of Scottsdale, Arizona; Jason Schermer and his wife Michelle of Cleveland, Ohio; Gavin Schermer and his wife Erika of Morton, Illinois; Elizabeth McKee and her husband Brian of Round Lake, Illinois; and Katherine Peterson of Claremont, California; 3 great grandchildren: Emily Mckee, Madeline McKee, and Brian McKee, Jr. all of Round Lake, Illinois; brother: Lester Pearson and his wife Margaret of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, January 11, 2002 at the First Covenant Church with the Rev. David Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, January 10, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
