Doris Arlene Johnson, age 94, lifelong resident of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Advent Health Shawnee Mission in Merriam, Kansas with family by her side. Doris was born November 13, 1927 in Elliott, Iowa, the daughter of Dallas and Golda (Core) Bills. She graduated from Stennett High School in 1945 as valedictorian. Doris was united in marriage to Virgil Johnson on August 25, 1945, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak, Iowa. They made their home in Red Oak, Iowa. Over the years, Doris worked for Johnson Hotel, Carbon Plant for 2 years, JC Penney Co. for 7 years, Hunts Super Value for 27 years, and Houghton State Bank retiring after 23 years in 2005. She enjoyed playing golf, reading, and gardening. Watching PGA golf became a weekend ritual. She always knew who won each week and if they were "good lookin". Winning the "Yard of The Month" award for her meticulous work with her yard and her gardening was a proud moment. She was the last charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Red Oak.
Preceding her in death were her parents; son: Rusty Johnson; husband: Virgil Johnson; brothers: Bernard Bills and Gordon Bills; and sister: Lois Funkhouser. Survivors include her son: Randy Johnson and wife Cindy of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren: Sarah Johnson of Tulsa, OK and Michael Johnson and fiancé, Kelsey, of Broken Arrow, OK; great grandchildren: Zachary Johnson of Tulsa, OK; Morgan Johnson of Tulsa, OK; and Emma Johnson of Broken Arrow, OK; step-grandchildren: Angie Peterson of Oakland, IA; Heidi Harn and husband Nick of Overland Park, KS; and Robbie Peterson and wife Mandy of Grove, OK; step-great grandchildren; brother: Marlin Bills and wife Dorothy of Jenks, OK; sister-in-law Barbara Bills of Creston, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with burial of the cremated remains to be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
