Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Donna Mae Askey, age 74, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. Donna Mae Askey was born November 24, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Donald and Lorraine (Crowder) Foes. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1954 and started working at Spurgeons. Donna was united in marriage to J.C. Shrum in Red Oak in 1955 and moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1956 where she worked at Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company. Donna moved back to Red Oak in 1963 and was united in marriage to Jim Askey in 1966. They moved to a farm southwest of Stanton, Iowa until 1984 when they sold the farm and moved into Red Oak. She worked for 10 years at the Earl May Garden Center in Red Oak and also Johnny's Steakhouse before going to work for Red Coach Inn for 7 years. Donna enjoyed her free time crocheting, watching football, and most recently serving as Vice President of the Acorn Acres Resident Council. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Jim Askey in 2009; son: Donald Shrum; and brothers: Steven, Ron, and Richard Foes. Survivors include her children: Deb Kirchner and husband Kelvin of Braddyville, IA; Pam Miller formerly of Stanton and Red Oak; Charles Shrum of Villisca, IA; and Mike Askey and wife Linda of Red Oak, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-7 PM Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Donna's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
