Birthplace: Hugo, Colorado Resided In: Essex, Iowa MaDonna Ann´ Allender, age 76, of Essex, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Donna was born January 20, 1938 in Hugo, Colorado the daughter of Walter and Mary (Murphy) Lyons. She graduated from Genoa, Colorado High School in 1956. Donna started waitressing at the truck stop in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she met Ben Allender. They were united in marriage on February 6, 1961 in Colorado Springs and moved back to the Red Oak area in that same year. Over the years, Donna had worked at JD Cafe and the Rainbow Cafe. She cleaned houses and did people's ironing for many years. She retired from Montgomery County Memorial Hospital where she worked in the Dietary Department. Donna enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, playing SKIPBO, garage sales, Nebraska football, and family holiday gatherings. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Ben Allender on October 4, 2005; grandson: Matthew Benjamin Lee Andersen; brothers: Jerry and Bob Lyons; and son-in-law: Kirk Stoneking. Survivors include her daughters: Brenda Guthrie and husband Steve of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Carolyn Stoneking and friend Stephen Plante of Red Oak, IA; Connie Andersen and husband Tim of Council Bluffs, IA; and Michelle Allender of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Ken Goff of Sisters, OR; Justin Goff and friend Dezarai Binder of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; their father: Kenneth Goff of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Colton Guthrie of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Kirby Stoneking of Red Oak, IA; Staff Sgt Amanda Semsch and husband Aaron of Lebanon, MO; Samantha Stoneking and friend Michael Plumlee of Red Oak, IA; and Shelby, Jordan, and Benét Andersen of Council Bluffs, IA; great grandchildren: Milah and Jayden Plumlee and Grace Semsch; brothers: Dick Lyons and wife Julia of Limon, CO; Billy Lyons and wife Mimi of Hugo, CO; and Ted Lyons of Hugo, CO; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery in rural Montgomery County. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30-8 PM Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
