Birthplace: Mountain Grove, Missouri Resided In: McKinney, Texas formerly of Red Oak, Iowa Donald Wittwer, age 83, of McKinney, Texas, formerly of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday April 7, 2002 at the North Medical Health Center in McKinney, Texas. Donald was born April 22, 1918 in Mountain Grove, Missouri to Le Roy A. and Isa Mae (Summers) Wittwer. He attended several rural schools while living in Kansas and Iowa. Donald served in the European-African-Middle East Theaters during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and French Croix de Guerre. On January 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Mary Wilma Wells in Hiawatha, Kansas. They lived in Red Oak, Iowa for 50 years before relocating to Texas for the past 7 years. During Donald's work life he served Red Oak and Montgomery County as a Police Officer, Water Superintendent and County Road Maintenance Employee. He also had 10 years of service as an employee of Uniroyal Inc. before retirement in 1985. Donald was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak, Iowa and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Mary Wittwer of McKinney, Texas; daughter: Donna Ross and her husband Clyde of McKinney, Texas; 2 sons: Melvin Wittwer and his wife Elizabeth of Waterloo, Iowa; and Raymond Wittwer and his wife Jelena of Coos Bay, Oregon; 6 grandchildren: Ryan Ross and his wife Shun of Lancaster, Texas; Sheila Walk and her husband Steven of Chesterfield, Missouri; Jeffrey Wittwer of Waterloo, Iowa; Mikaela Backinski and her husband Scott of Minneaopolis, Minnesota; Danielle Wittwer of Coos Bay, Oregon; and Jonathan Wittwer of Coos Bay, Oregon; 3 great grandchildren: Riley Backinski, Ryan Ross II, and Alex Walk; brother: Edward Wittwer of Tuscon, Arizona; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joseph, sister Mary Straight and one sister in infancy. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, April 13, 2002 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Frank Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, April 12, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
