Birthplace: Stanton, Iowa Resided In: Lenexa, Kansas formerly of Red Oak,Iowa Donald L. "Chic" Trybom, age 82, of Lenexa, Kansas formerly of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, September 21, 2007 at his home in Lenexa. Donald "Chic" Trybom was born June 24, 1925 in Stanton, Iowa the son of Martin and Anna (Lindgren) Trybom. He was raised in the Stanton area, graduating from Stanton High School in 1943. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. Upon his return he bought the Stanton Café in 1947. In 1948 Chic married Lois Gray, his wife of 59 years. Lois and Chic opened Don's Café in 1948 and in 1949 opened the Pine Room in Tenville. In 1951, the couple moved to Kansas City where Chic began his long career in the transportation industry at the Ralph Hurst Egg Company. He worked for Southwest Freight for 28 years, then, later for TransAm trucking until his first retirement in 2001. From 2002 until 2003 he taught driving at JTL Truck Driving School. In 1967, Chic and Lois adopted their only son, Troy Michael. Donald was a longtime member of the Ernie Johnson Post of the American Legion in Stanton, Iowa and the Mamrelund Lutheran Church. He was a loving husband and father who was always there to help with Boy Scouts, organize fishing trips, and cheer on the team at sporting events. Chic was devoted to being "Pop" to his son Troy. They loved the outdoors, fishing, and boating. Chic will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul and a good buddy by many. Preceding him in death were his parents and a nephew: Kent Lundgren. Survivors include his wife: Lois Trybom of Lenexa, Kansas; son: Troy Trybom and wife Melissa of Stilwell, Kansas; grandchildren: Morgan, Sophia, and Gus; sister: Edna Lundgren of St. Paul, Minnesota; niece: Jeanie Lundgren of Overland Park, Kansas: Cheryl Miles and husband Rob and family of Red Springs, North Carolina and many other relatives and friends. Memorials services will be held 10 AM Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery at Stanton, Iowa.
