Obituary

Birthplace: Council Bluffs, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Donald H. "Don" Spetman passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha after a sudden illness. Donald H. "Don" Spetman was born September 29, 1928 in Council Bluffs, Iowa the son of Roy and Sophia (Miller) Spetman. He was raised in the Glenwood and Tabor areas graduating from Tabor High School in 1947. After school, he lived near Malvern, Iowa and worked in Council Bluffs at Giant Manufacturing making slides and other playground equipment. He was united in marriage to Ilene Williams on October 17, 1951 near Silver City, Iowa at Ilene's parents home. After their marriage they lived and farmed near Malvern, Emerson, Elliott, and Red Oak before moving into Red Oak in 1996. In his early years Don loved roller skating, bowling, and golf. He always enjoyed playing cards and dominoes as well as his time at Burger King for the "Coffee Club". Don was on the planning committee for the trips with Great Western Bank which he and Ilene both enjoyed. Don also served in the United States Army Reserve as a young man and was a longtime member of the Stratton United Methodist Church serving in many different capacities. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister: Ginny Carr and brother: Kenny Spetman. Survivors include his wife: Ilene Spetman of Red Oak, Iowa; daughters: Kathy Casson and husband Walt of Okoboji, Iowa and Cindy Hennings and husband Al of Omaha, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Dan Hennings and wife Michelle of Chicago, Illinois; Jeff Hennings of Omaha, Nebraska; and Chris Hennings of Omaha, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, December 28, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Stratton United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
