Birthplace: Rural Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Stanton, Iowa Donald Luther Peterson, age 84, of Stanton, Iowa passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak. Donald Luther Peterson was born January 21, 1930 near Red Oak, Iowa the son of Luther and Florence (Miller) Peterson. He grew up on a farm north of Stanton, graduating from Stanton High School in 1950. The next few years were spent working on the family farm. He met Virginia Young and they were married on February 20, 1960 in Red Oak, Iowa. They had two children: Jeff and Sara. The family farmed south of Stanton and Donald worked at various jobs in the area. He spent many years working for the Red Oak Veterinary Clinic, Mamrelund Lutheran Church, and Batten Sanitation. The family moved into Stanton in 1980 to live with Grandpa Peterson. Donald and Virginia lived in Stanton in their own home until about a year ago when they moved to Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak. Donald enjoyed antiquing and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Royals Fan. Donald is survived by his wife of almost 55 years: Virginia Peterson of the Good Samaritan Society; son: Jeff Peterson and wife Lori and their daughter, Alyssa of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter: Sara McAlexander and husband Jon and their son Kyle of Urbandale, Iowa; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the Good Samaritan Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
