Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Donald D. Norris, age 70, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2008 at his residence. Donald Dean "Don" Norris was born November 4, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Lyle Erwin and Vada Virginia (Vannausdle) Norris. Don's father passed away when Don was very young and he was raised by his step-father, Roy "Dick" Thomas whom he called "Dad". Don graduated from the Elliott High School in 1955 and was united in marriage to Phyllis Pegel on December 27, 1956. He was later united in marriage to Janet Scherbring on March 21, 1967 in Omaha, Nebraska. Over the years Don farmed and worked in area factories as a maintenance mechanic until going back to school graduating in 1999 from Southwest Community College with a degree of Associate of Applied Science in Electromechanical Technology. He worked for NSK Corporation and retired in 2004. Most recently Don was the Library Director for the Elliott Public Library. Don was a longtime member of the Pilot Grove United Methodist Church where he served as Board Chairman and many other offices throughout the years. Don enjoyed fishing, raising roses, stock car races, cruises, playing cards, reading, and most of all his family. Preceding him in death were his parents and step father. Survivors include his wife: Janet Norris of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Michael Norris and fiancé Chris Johnson of Red Oak, Iowa; Christopher Norris of Shenandoah, Iowa; Teresa Chase of Clarinda, Iowa; Gail Mirts of Clarinda, Iowa; Lisa Magneson and husband Gordon of Red Oak, Iowa; Sara Kammerer and husband Tim of Stanton, Iowa; and Samuel Norris of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Cole Norris and wife Georgeann of Washington State; Kyle Chase of Red Oak, Iowa; Kaleb Mirts and wife Heather of Red Oak, Iowa; Derrick McAdams of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Alixandria, Moriah, and Noah Kammerer all of Stanton, Iowa; great grandchildren: Kyler and Blake Mirts; sister: Karen Fransiscus and husband Gary of Mason City, Iowa; brother-in-law: Jim Scherbring and wife Sharon of Marianna, Arizona; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gordon Scott officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott Public Library or the Heartland Hospice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
