Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Donald B. Hunt, age 82, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Donald Burr Hunt was born October 20, 1925 in Montgomery County, Iowa the son of Alonzo and Rosa (Burr) Hunt. He was raised in Montgomery County attending school in Coburg and Red Oak. He served in the United States Army during WWII and upon his return began farming near Coburg, Tenville, and Stanton. He was a hired man for Janet Nimrod for many years and also did a lot of custom work. Don was united in marriage to Karen Brown on September 1, 1972 in Red Oak, Iowa. During the 70's and 80's Don farmed over 1000 acres of ground. Don was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and was most recently on the Board of Trustees. He served in many capacities over the years. He was a 4-H leader and was a member of the Ernie Johnson American Legion Post in Stanton. Don enjoyed collecting coins, pewter, clocks, and planting trees and roses. He was also known to be a practical joker. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Karen on April 30, 1982; and his brother: Marvin Hunt. Survivors include his children: Clint Hunt and wife Carie of Red Oak, Iowa; Julie Wolfe and husband Pat of Red Oak, Iowa; Phyllis Heim and husband Ted of Colorado Springs, Colorado; David Hunt and wife Karen of Chicago, Illinois; and Amy Strebe and husband Wayne of Coppers Cove, Texas; grandchildren; Chelbie, Cassandra, and Christian Hunt; Tristan and Corbin Wolfe; Kolton and Kaiden Hunt; and expecting Alyssa Rose Stebe; brothers: Dean Hunt and wife Lillian of Elliott, Iowa and Verle Hunt and wife Ellen of Marshalltown, Iowa; sister-in-law: Doris Hunt of Shenandoah, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, May 23, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Historical Society for upkeep on the Nims Barn or the Ernie Johnson American Legion Post. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
