Birthplace: Chicago, IL Resided In: Red Oak, IA Donald W. Holm, age 75, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society. Donald Weston Holm was born March 25, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Harold and Ethel (Johnson) Holm. He was raised in Chicago where he attended school. Don was united in marriage to Patricia Tuohey on August 24, 1957 in Iuka, Mississippi. They lived in Chicago where Don worked for the Chicago Transit Authority until moving to Red Oak, Iowa in 1966. Over the years, he worked for Nelson Dairy, was a full time Fireman, worked for City of Red Oak Water Treatment Plant, Grays Body Shop, and LeRette's TV and Appliance. He retired from Eveready Battery Company after 19 years of service. He then went back to work for the Viking Lake State Park and later Halland Village in Stanton, Iowa. He drove for the Villisca Community Schools and also Belt GM Center. Don was a longtime member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge and the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching Chicago sports, bowling, gardening, and playing Cribbage. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Patricia on May 9, 2011; brother: Harold Holm; and sister: Harriett Kahrs. Survivors include his children: Donna Krings and husband Tom of Fullerton, NE; Donald Holm, Jr. and wife Teresa of Union Grove, WI; and Kelly Waters and husband Ron of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Sarah Holthe and husband Matt of York, NE; Tom Krings, Jr. and wife Kelly of Omaha, NE; David Holm and wife Karin of Lititz, PA; Melissa Holm of Union Grove, WI; Aaron Waters and wife Dawn of Chambersburg, PA; Megan Roenfeld and husband Justin of Red Oak, IA; and Tammy Waters of Red Oak, IA; great grandchildren: Luke and Rachel Holthe; Rider Roenfeld; and Stella Holm; sisters: Ellen Akert and husband Ken of Roselle, IL and Nancy Gierthy and husband Ron of Vernon Hills, IL; brother-in-law: Ernest Tuohey and wife Lenore of Arizona; sister-in-law: Nora Russell; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, August 26, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
