Birthplace: Moberly, MO Resided In: Red Oak,IA Donald Eugene "Don" Cashatt, age 86, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Don was born January 17, 1932 in Moberly, Missouri the son of Herbert Franklin and Frances Fanny Cashatt. He was raised in the Atlantic and Cumberland area where he attended country school. Don served in the United States Army from 1949 until 1952. He was stationed in Italy during the Korean War. Don returned to Glenwood, Iowa after his service and was united in marriage to Joyce Pulsifer on June 27, 1953. He worked on a heavy highway construction crew for many years moving to Red Oak, Iowa in 1959. He worked for Leonard Nelson Construction until starting his own business, Cashatt and Sons Construction in 1980. Don retired in 1989. He was a 60 plus year member of the Glenwood American Legion, longtime Masonic Lodge member, was an Honorary Red Oak Fireman, and served on the board of Houghton State Bank for many years. Don had a passion for flying and spent many hours volunteering his time to offer "Angel Flights" for those in need. Don always had an adventurous side and would try anything new including in his younger years racing micro midget cars. Don and Joyce enjoyed traveling, spending time in their motor home, winter trips to Arizona, golfing, spending time outdoors, especially on his bull dozer working the land, and spending time with his family. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers: Jimmy and Wayne; infant son: Daniel; brothers-in-law: John Lincoln, Butch Pulsifer, Lynn Merritt and Jerry Wright; and sisters-in-law: Jackie Wright and Marge Cashatt. Survivors include his wife: Joyce Cashatt of Red Oak; children: Doug Cashatt and wife Shelle of Red Oak; Donette Briggs of Red Oak; and David Cashatt of Stanton, IA; grandchildren: Chris Cashatt and wife Jennifer of Red Oak; Stacy Querry and husband Travis of Red Oak; Shane Peck of Stanton; Samantha Kelly and husband Kevin of Stanton; and Logan Cashatt and wife Lindsay of Red Oak; great grandchildren: Jacob, Jared, Grace, Josie, Ruby, Annika, Kinzie, Macie, Nolan, Evann, and Ethan; sister: Betty Merritt of Glenwood, IA; brother: Roger Cashatt and wife Gloria of Glenwood, IA; sisters-in-law: Jeanne Lincoln of Glenwood; Jerri Daniels and husband Rob of Council Bluffs, IA; and Nancy Pulsifer of Glenwood; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial with military honors will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
