Birthplace: Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Donald F. Buehler, age 82, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at his residence after an extended illness. Donald F. Buehler was born October 11, 1927 in Elliott, Iowa the son of Ed and Lena Buehler. He was raised at Elliott, Iowa where he attended school. Don started working for the Produce Store in Elliott at the age of twelve. When he was fifteen, he went to work for the Thomas D. Murphy Company where he was a pressman and later a foreman. He was united in marriage to Betty Moore on July 21, 1947 in Shenandoah, Iowa and served his country in the Army during the Korean War years. Don eventually left the Murphy Company to start his own printing business known as Valley Associates located in the former Stennett School. He operated the business until 1989 when he retired. Don enjoyed bowling, playing pool, playing cards including Pitch and Cribbage, collecting vintage cars, and telling jokes. He was a former member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge and the Classy Chassis Car Club. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Dorothy Doughman. Survivors include his wife: Betty Buehler of Red Oak, IA children: Michael "Mick" Buehler and wife Jean of Olathe, KS; Linda Wookey and husband Dennis of Red Oak, IA; Shari Buehler of Red Oak, IA; and Scott Buehler and wife Joy of St. Charles, IL; grandchildren: Jason Buehler and wife Charity of Olathe, KS; Carrie Skorupan and husband Ryan of Olathe, KS; Jake Wookey and wife Mindy of Stanton, IA; Jenny Rich and husband Joe of W. Des Moines, IA; and London, Kennedy, and Liam Buehler all of St. Charles, IL; great grandchildren: Kaleigh, Kolton, and Karson Buehler; Alexandra, Madalynn, and Michael Skorupan; Madison, Mallorie, and Jonan Wookey; and Cory and Jeff Rich; brother: Duane Buehler and wife Dolores of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister: Diane Casart of Papillion, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Graveside Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel by 1:30 PM to go to the cemetery in procession. There will be open visitation at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established in Don's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
