Birthplace: Aberdeen, SD Resided In: Red Oak, IA Donald James Beeson, age 92, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Donald was born July 15, 1921 in Aberdeen, South Dakota the son of Edward and Nell (McGovern) Beeson. The family moved to a farm near Coburg, Iowa where Don graduated high school. He worked on the family farm until enlisting in the United States Navy just before the onset of WWII. He saw considerable action from his Navy ship that was stationed in the North Atlantic, including D-Day. After the war, Don returned to Red Oak and was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jeanette "Jan" Cozad on July 20, 1945. He worked at Eveready Battery Company for several years and retired after many years from the Learning Resource Center. Don loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting and passed this on to his sons and grandchildren. He played town team baseball for Coburg and the Red Oak Red Sox in the 1950's, hitting several towering homers that sailed over the road. Don also loved auctions, buying, selling, and trading old farm tools, antiques, and his favorite, Maytag engines and parts. Don was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Red Oak Eagles Lodge, American Legion, VFW, Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor, and Past Exalted Ruler of the Red Oak Elks Lodge. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife of 68 years: Jan Beeson; son: Patrick Beeson in 1982; sisters: Mary Prichard and Margrette Josephson; and brother: Edward Beeson. Survivors include his sons: Robert Beeson and wife Linda of Riverside, IA and William Beeson of Winterset, IA; grandchildren: Rob Beeson and wife Andrea of Riverside, IA; Ryan Beeson of Riverside, IA; Robin Culbertson and husband Scott of Stanton, IA; Jeff Beeson of Winterset, IA; Joe Beeson of Billings, MT; Jim Beeson of Des Moines, IA; and Jennifer Lyon and husband Ron of Winterset, IA; 8 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Thomas Kunnel, TOR officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 - 7:30 PM Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
