Birthplace: Arcadia, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Murel L. "Dick" Scherbring, age 82 of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, February 8, 2004 at his home in Red Oak. M.L. "Dick" Scherbring was born June 16, 1921 in Arcadia, Iowa the son of Joseph and Mayme (Niehaus) Scherbring. He attended school in Coon Rapids, Iowa. Dick joined the United States Navy during World War II where he served in the South Pacific attached to the 1st Naval Sea Bees Battalion. He was united in marriage to Genevie Johnson in 1946 in Coon Rapids, Iowa. They Moved to Red Oak, Iowa in 1961 and Dick became Postmaster in 1963. In 1970 Dick was united in marriage to Gladys Heckerson. They enjoyed wintering in Boulder City, Nevada after Dick retired in 1981. Gladys preceded him in death in December of 1991. On October 6, 1994 Dick was united in marriage to Ivadell Hested in Red Oak, Iowa. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, National Post Masters Association, Red Oak Elks Lodge, and the American Legion. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; 2 wives: Genevie and Gladys; and 2 sisters: Agatha Stangl; and Ethel Johnston. Survivors include his wife: Ivadell Scherbring of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Janet Norris and her husband Don of Red Oak, Iowa; son: James Scherbring and his wife Sharon of Panora, Iowa; 3 grandchildren: Lisa Magneson and her husband Gordon of Red Oak, Iowa; Sara Kammerer and her husband Tim of Stanton, Iowa; and Samuel Norris of Glenwood, Iowa; 4 great grandchildren: Derrick McAdams of Red Oak, Iowa; and Alix, Moriah, and Noah Kammerer of Stanton, Iowa; 2 sisters: Dorothy Simpson of Des Moines, Iowa; and Mary Lou Stangl of Manning, Iowa; step-children: Nancy Seymore and her husband Paul of Boulder City, Nevada; Larry Hested and his wife Jayne of Geneva, Illinois; Gary Hested and his wife Judy of Story City, Iowa; and Mary Littiebrandt and her husband Mark of Appleton, Wisconsin; 11 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Thursday, February 12, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Ken Gross officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
