Dennis Robert “Denny” Wookey, age78, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at his home. Denny was born November 14, 1947, in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Robert and Eileen (Raymond) Wookey. He graduated from Red Oak Community High School in 1966 and then Universal Trade School in Omaha, Nebraska. Denny enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Linda Buehler on March 1, 1969, at Hawthorne United Methodist Church in Hawthorne, Iowa. Denny and Linda lived all their married life on the farm. Denny was a 41-year member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge and received “Elk of the Year” for 2016-2017. His hobbies included hunting, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, and feeding livestock. His greatest joy came from his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Betty Buehler. Survivors include his wife, Linda Wookey of Red Oak, Iowa; son, Jake Wookey and wife Mindy of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter, Jenny Wookey-Rich of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Madison Akers and husband Bailey of Johnston, Iowa; Mallorie Wookey of Waukee, Iowa; Jonan Wookey of Ames, Iowa; Cory Rich of Iowa City, Iowa; and Jeff Rich of Iowa City, Iowa; great grandchildren: Lynora and Penelope Akers of Johnston, Iowa; sister-in-law: Shari Buehler of Red Oak, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Mick Buehler and wife Jean of Olathe, Kansas, and Scott Buehler and wife Joy of St. Charles, Illinois; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Monday, February 9, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
