Obituary

Birthplace: Meridan, Kansas Resided In: Grant, Iowa Delbert L. Wilcoxon, age 77, of Grant, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Delbert Lee Wilcoxon was born January 2, 1931 in Meridan, Kansas the son of Ralph Agnew and Lena Irene (Irwin) Wilcoxon. The family moved to Iowa in 1941 and Delbert graduated from the Villisca High School in 1949. Delbert served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1949-1961 in Villisca, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Shelia Smith on February 14, 1966 in Grant, Iowa. As a young man he started his working career at Campbell's as a mechanic and then went to work for Spiker Chevrolet where he was the service manager until they closed in 1971. He then managed the machine shop at Hoye Elevator until 1983 when he started Wilcoxon Garage in Grant. Delbert retired in 1995. He was a member of the Grant Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years and the Grant Town Council for over 40 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing all over the country. He even worked at a resort in Canada for one summer. He also enjoyed playing cards and the Sunday Morning Breakfast Group. His greatest joy was his family. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: Duane Wilcoxon; and sister: Norma Cole. Survivors include his wife: Shelia Wilcoxon of Grant, Iowa; children: Chuck Wilcoxon and wife Karen of Atlantic, Iowa; Pamela Roberts and husband Garry of Keota, Iowa; and Nathan Wilcoxon and wife Kelly of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Heather Lowe and husband Jason who are missionaries to the Bahamas; Corey Roberts and wife Jeanine of Monticello, Iowa; Micah Roberts and Chrissy of Monticello, Iowa; Anna Wilcoxon of Los Angeles, California; Kara Wilcoxon of Iowa City, Iowa; Bethany Wilcoxon of Ames, Iowa; Spencer Wilcoxon of Red Oak, Iowa; and Thomas Delbert Lee Wilcoxon of Red Oak, Iowa; great grandchildren: Audrey, Ian, Aiden, and Ethan Lowe; Isabella, Sophia, and Kealy Roberts; and Jacqueline Wessling; sisters and brothers: Olive Anderson and husband Don of Salina, Colorado; Cecil Wilcoxon and wife Mary of Georgetown, Deleware; Donald Wilcoxon and wife Barbara of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Laura Massingill and husband Clyde of Gering, Nebraska; and Jerry Cole of Boise, Idaho; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, October 20, 2008 at the Grant United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Grant, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Grant Volunteer Fire Department, Grant United Methodist Church or the Grant Preservationists. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
