Birthplace: Wallin, Iowa Resided In: Elliott, Iowa Delbert Peterson, age 91, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Delbert Ulysses Peterson was born May 11, 1910 in Wallin, Iowa the son of Gus and Anna (Larson) Peterson. When Delbert was 10 years old the family moved to Hemingford, Nebraska where Delbert attended school and graduated from the Hemingford High School in 1929. On December 28, 1933 he was united in marriage to Lorena Kirby in Elliott, Iowa on the farm where he has lived all of his life. Lorena preceded Delbert in death in January of 1978. Delbert was united in marriage to Mildred Underwood on March 21, 1980 in Omaha, Nebraska. He continued to farm and raise cattle until 1982 when he sold off the cattle. Delbert never really gave up farming whether it be the popcorn he planted and harvested or the big crop of tomatoes each year. He was active in the Elliott Senior Center where he delivered meals for over twenty years. Delbert was also a longtime member of the Elliott Church of Christ where he served in many capacities. Preceding him in death were his parents; his 1st wife: Lorena; daughter: Karen Wycuff; and a granddaughter: Karla Wycuff. Survivors include his wife: Mildred Peterson of Elliott, Iowa; grandson: Gregory Wycuff of Shenandoah, Iowa; step-son: Donald Underwood and his wife Joanne of Corpus Christie, Texas; 2 step-grandchildren: Gerald and Diana Underwood both of Portland, Texas; 3 sisters: Viola Stephens of Denver, Colorado; Mabel Huskey of Boise, Idaho; and Edith Ermish of Nathrop, Colorado; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 15, 2001 at the Elliott Church of Christ in Elliott, Iowa with the Rev. Kirk Dudley officiating. Burial will be in the Waveland Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Thursday, June 14, 2001 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Elliott Church of Christ.
