Birthplace: Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Darwin Buehler, age 76, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Darwin Faye Buehler was born March 28, 1926 near Elliott, Iowa the son of Ralph and Gertrude (Bauer) Buehler. He graduated from the Burlington, Iowa High School and served his country in the Navy during WWII where he was involved with the invasion of Okinawa on LST 894. Darwin was united in marriage to Monalou Marshall on November 7, 1959 in Burlington, Iowa. After their marriage they lived in Red Oak, Des Moines, Burlington, and Kansas City before moving to St. Joseph, Missouri where they lived for 30 years. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad retiring after 36 years of service. Darwin and Monalou moved to Red Oak in 1982 and started traveling and camping. Monalou preceded Darwin in death on November 6, 1997. Darwin was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, VFW, the Masonic Lodge, and the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include his 4 sons: Albert Buehler and his wife Ruby of Red Oak, Iowa; Darwin Buehler and his wife Lisa of Benton, Arkansas; Michael Buehler and his wife Cheryl of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Steven Buehler and his wife Angela of Olathe, Kansas; 4 grandchildren: Nathan, Tiffany, Amanda, and Samuel; 2 sisters: Cathryn Fort and her husband Robert of Red Oak, Iowa; and Margorie Smith and her husband Clinton of Centerville, Iowa; brother: Ralph Buehler and his wife Phyllis of Newton, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, June 28, 2002 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Suzanne Hewett officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be Masonic Rites at 7PM Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with visitation to follow. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
