Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Wales, Iowa Darry Oliver Jenkins, age 68, of Wales, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at his home after an extended illness. Darry was born August 20, 1946 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Harold and Eleanor (Thomas) Jenkins. He was raised in the Wales area attending school at Wales Lincoln and later graduating from Red Oak High School in 1964. He then attended college for one year. Darry was united in marriage to Susan Cary on November 20, 1966 at the Stratton Church in Montgomery County, Iowa. Four children were born to this union: Lori, Lisa, Rick, and Marla. Darry and Sue lived in Omaha and Council Bluffs before moving back to Wales, Iowa where Darry started farming in 1969. Darry was always a sports enthusiast, being a coach for many years and also an athlete playing slow pitch softball for Wales and Williams Rec. He served as an area commissioner for the State Slow Pitch Softball Association. He even started a little girls softball team at Wales. He was a lifelong supporter of Red Oak Athletics. Darry spent his later years working in his own business, Hawkeye Construction where he had the opportunity to develop the swamp ground at the intersection of Highway 34 and 48 by building an Ampride Gas Station, Hawkeye Storage Units, and the ASCS Office Building. He even designed and helped build the Red Oak Sports Complex. Darry was a member of the Wales Presbyterian Church. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife: Linda Jay of Wales, Iowa; children: Lori Jenkins-Bullivant and husband Joe of Lombard, IL; Lisa Jenkins of Omaha, NE and also Charlotte, NC; Rick Jenkins of Red Oak, IA; and Marla Jenkins of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Maddie and Laney Bullivant of Lombard, IL; Ashley Valentine of Oklahoma City, OK; Chloey Adams Jenkins of Kenton, OH; and Olivia Jenkins of Red Oak, IA; brothers: Don Jenkins and wife Nancy of Atlantic, IA and Bryan Jenkins and wife Trudy of Wales, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Wales Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Gomer Cemetery at Wales. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
