Birthplace: Atlantic, Iowa Resided In: Elliott, IA formerly Massena, IA Darrel Glen Davis of Elliott, Iowa formerly of Massena, Iowa went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 14 days. Darrel Glen Davis was born in Atlantic, Iowa on March 16, 1932 to Glen and Carrie (Anderson) Davis. He was raised south of Atlantic where he learned to love the land. Darrel attended country school and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1950. He began his farming career with his parents until he was called to serve his country in the Army during the Korean War from 1953-54 where he was a supply clerk and supply truck driver. While serving with the 52nd Engineer Company in France he enjoyed playing football on the company team which successfully made it to the semi-finals. Had they made the finals the team would have made a trip home to play in the U.S.A. Upon returning home Darrel resumed his lifelong farming career and married Carolyn Palmquist on August 12, 1961 and together they farmed south of Atlantic for 5 years before moving to Elliott where they farmed the Harold Thompson farm for 7 years. In 1973 they purchased a farm south of Massena where they raised their 3 daughters. In 1998 they returned to Elliott where Darrel helped his son-in-law, Ed Oster on the farm through the spring of 2015. Darrel served on the Cass Co. Extension Council, Cass and Mont. Co. Farm Bureau and held many offices in the United Methodist Church. He was involved in the American Legion, Pork Producers, and was the Victoria Township Cemetery clerk for many years. Darrel was proud that he donated 15 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. One ambition in life that he was unable to fulfill was auctioneer school but he did enjoy performing for his family. He also enjoyed country music, polkas, vacation trips, sports, and all activities of the grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: Ronald Davis and wife Mary; and brothers-in-law: Bob Schimelfenig and Wray McDermott. Survivors include his wife of 53 years: Carolyn Davis of Elliott, IA; daughters: Diane Brockman and husband Byron of Glenwood, IA; Donna Oster and husband Ed of Elliott, IA; and Susan Davis of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Amber Brockman of Council Bluffs, IA; Cory Brockman of Glenwood, IA; Lucas Oster and fiance Laura Marnin of Red Oak, IA; and Emily and Ellen Oster of Elliott, IA; sisters: Phyllis Schimelfenig of Indianola, IA; Sharon Jensen and husband Don of Atlantic, IA; and Connie Wailes and husband Dennis of Atlantic, IA; brother: Gary Davis and wife Sharon of Fairbury, NE; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Elliott United Methodist Church with Pastor Terry McClain officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Mission Covenant Cemetery at 1 PM Friday, July 3, 2015. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Fuenral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel, Red Oak, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
