Birthplace: Clarinda, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Darla Sue Wright, age 71, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Darla was born October 6, 1944 in Clarinda, Iowa the daughter of Thomas Wade and Lucille (Whitney) Crawford. The family lived in New Market until Darla was in the fifth grade when they moved to Clarinda. She graduated from Clarinda High School and attended college. Darla was united in marriage to Terry Wright on November 21, 1962 in Greenfield, Iowa. They lived in Clarinda, Bedford, and Shenandoah before moving to Red Oak in 1967. Darla worked for the Red Oak Community Schools for 37 years. She had a wonderful gentle nature and was loved by all her school kids throughout the years. Darla was a member of the First Covenant Church and always enjoyed Bible study. Darla was also very talented and enjoyed crafts, scrap booking, flower gardening and photography. Her greatest joy came from her family whom she loved dearly. Preceding her in death were her parents; her grandson: Jordan Vannausdle; and her brother-in-law: Gary Poore. Survivors include her husband: Terry Wright of Red Oak; children: Tom Wright and wife Ronnel Herzberg of Red Oak; Tracy Vannausdle and husband Roger of Red Oak; and Holly Brown of Littleton, CO; grandchildren: Eric Vannausdle of Red Oak; Paige Vannausdle of Pella, IA; Cori Brown and Eryn Brown of Littleton, CO; Courtney Owen and husband Brad of Grimes, IA; and Tom Gourley and wife Haley of Villisca, IA; great grandchildren: Molly, Jacoby, and Tucker Owen; Miley Miller; and Austyn and Emersyn Gourley; sisters: Barbara Poore of Indianapolis, IN and Georgia Carpenter and husband Glenn of Omaha, NE; uncle: Ralph Crawford of Villisca, IA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the First Covenant Church with Pastor Alan Dean officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Jordan Vannausdle Athletic Association or the Christ's Cupboard Community Food Pantry. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
