Obituary

Birthplace: Hawthorne, Nevada Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Daniel David "Danny" Stogdill, age 65, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 at his residence. Danny was born October 31, 1950 the son of Lilly Mae Harris. The family moved to Red Oak when Danny was very young. He graduated from Red Oak High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he served as a door gunner upon a helicopter. After returning from Vietnam, Danny owned a leather shop in Red Oak and over the years worked in construction and did tiling work in the agricultural industry. He loved riding his bicycle, raccoon hunting, going to coffee with his mother, and especially spending time with his grandson, Jake. Preceding him in death was his mother, Lilly Stogdill Casteel. Survivors include his daughter: Morgan Dunkeson and husband Dustin of Shenandoah, IA; grandson: Jacob Dunkeson of Shenandoah, IA; a special child whom Danny helped raise: Amber Nelson of Red Oak, IA; sister: Nevada Watson and husband Dale of Stanton, IA; special friend: Karen Bryan of Red Oak, IA; nieces, and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project for veterans with mental health Illnesses. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
