Birthplace: Wales, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Dale L. Gard, age 89, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa after a sudden illness. Dale Leslie Gard was born January 12, 1924 in Wales, Iowa the son of Marion and Frances (Scherer) Gard. He attended school at Strahan, Iowa and started his farming career at a very young age. Dale was united in marriage to Beverly Goforth in 1994 at St. Joseph, Missouri. They made their home on the farm that Dale has lived on for over fifty years. He was a fifty plus year member of the Emerson Masonic Lodge. He was a skilled carpenter and mechanic and farmed 300 acres all of his life. He enjoyed fishing, especially in Canada and spent many hours enjoying the countryside on drives throughout southwest Iowa. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister: Alice Mae. Survivors include his wife: Beverly Gard of Emerson; step-children: Bill Goforth and wife Sharon of Orlando, FL; Bob Goforth of Corning, IA; and Pam Caruso of Emerson; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sisters: Marian Beckmann of Independence, MO and Doris Achenbach of Coburn, CO; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be a Masonic service at 6:30 PM Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with visitation to follow until 8 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
