Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Dale Dean Elwood, age 76, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Dale was born June 16, 1938 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Joe and Gladys (Carper) Elwood. He was raised in Elliott, Iowa and graduated from Elliott High School in 1956. He worked for Milner's garage in Elliott and later the United Farmers Mercantile in Red Oak before moving to Omaha, Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Judy Frizzell and three children were born to this union: Brett, Jeff, and Kala. While in Omaha, Dale worked for Griffin Pipe Company in Council Bluffs, Iowa and later Standard Iron in Omaha. He also had his own Dry Wall business for 20 years before moving to Red Oak in 1992. Dale was united in marriage to Janie Wagaman on February 25, 1993 in Vermillion, SD. For the past six years Dale worked for Red Oak Schools retiring in July of this year. Dale loved carpentry work and was a "jack of all trades". He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Kala; brother: Ira "Ike" Elwood; step-daughter-in-law: Sue Wagaman; grandson: Jared Wagaman; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Elwood, Helga Elwood, and Karen Elwood; brothers-in-law: Morris Kille, Frank Blay, and Raymond Blay, Marie Fox, Esther Pangburn and Billy Blay. Survivors include his wife: Janie Elwood of Red Oak; children: Deana Leiferman; Cindy Cleaveland; Brett Elwood; Jeff Elwood and wife Nikki all of Omaha; and David Elwood of Atlantic, IA; step-children: Lori Gandara and husband Dan of St. George, UT; Patty Zimmerman of Atlantic, IA; Teresa Hossle and husband Fred, Jim Wagaman and wife Patty, and Jerry Wagaman and Cindy all of Red Oak; grandchildren: Tim Leiferman, Jenna, Cade, and Kelly Elwood all of Omaha; Jesse, Sam, and Grace Gandara of St. George, UT; Nick Zimmerman of Atlantic; Heather Laire and husband Corey of Red Oak; Heidi Sandahl and husband Adam of Essex, IA; Becca Ridnour and husband Harry of Clarinda, IA; Kaleb and wife Katie, Kalli Wagaman of Red Oak, Kolton Wagaman of Mason City, IA; Dani Woodman and husband Justin of Glenwood, IA; and Lindsey Wagaman of Omaha; great grandchildren: Clay, Ella, Rylee, Renly, Mason, and Khloe; brothers and sisters: Bill Elwood of Grandview, TX; Gordon Elwood and wife Mary of Glenwood, IA; Mary Kille of Dumas, TX; Joe Elwood, Jr. of Elliott, IA; Robert Elwood and wife Ardy of Lincoln, NE; Warren Elwood and wife Virginia of Red Oak; Jean Pope and husband Charlie of Omaha; Linda Gute and husband Vern of Modale, IA; Judy Blay and husband Robert of Villisca, IA; and Ed Elwood and wife Vickie of Elliott; sisters-in-law: Sandra Elwood of Grand Island, NE; Ruby Houtchens and husband Cliff of Red Oak; Donna Blay of Idaho; and Carolyn Blay of Red Oak; many nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Viewing and visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
